LANDFILL EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

​

As Landfill Equipment Operator you will be responsible for operating and maintaining various heavy equipment, such as bulldozers, loaders, backhoes, skid steers and compactors, and other heavy machinery to ensure the safe and efficient handling of DRC waste materials. You will work as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and will play a critical role in ensuring the proper functioning of the facility.

 

Responsibilities include:
• Operate heavy equipment and machinery, including bulldozers, excavators, compactors, and other equipment used in landfill operations.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment to ensure its safe and efficient operation.
• Perform daily inspections of equipment to identify any potential safety hazards or maintenance issues.
• Manage and control the flow of waste within the landfill and ensure that waste is properly compacted and covered, in accordance with the engineered fill plan.
• Follow all safety procedures and regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment.
• Ensure that all visitors comply with the site's rules and regulations.
• Assist with landfill site maintenance and cleaning, including the repair of fences, the cleaning of drainage systems, raking, shoveling, sweeping and general clean up.
• Keep accurate records of daily activities and equipment usage.
• Follow all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe work environment
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure safe and efficient operations
• Follow established procedures for the proper disposal of hazardous waste materials

Requirements
• At least 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment, preferably in a waste management or similar industry
• Ability to operate various heavy equipment, such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and compactors, safely and efficiently
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to conduct routine equipment inspections and maintenance checks
• Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to heavy equipment operation
• Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to waste management is an asset, but not required.

• Ability to work in all weather conditions and perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods of time

The equipment operator may be required to work on weekends and holidays as well as before the site opens for the public.
